Dr. Leslie Blanchard serves as the Assistant Dean for the College of Agriculture at Louisiana State University. She has worked in the field of education for almost 20 years. From 1996-2000, Dr. Blanchard developed, implemented, and evaluated unique, engaging, and interactive learning experiences for high-risk middle and high school students in English, biology, chemistry, environmental science, and physics. In 2000, she moved into a role as the Instructional Technology Coordinator for the Iberville Parish School System. During her tenure there, she designed and delivered professional development for teachers in many content areas, including technology integration, STEM, new teacher induction, and mentor teacher training. Dr. Blanchard also worked to secure funding to ensure the students of her district had the best possible technological resources available. She procured nearly $13 million in funding through three separate 21st Century Community Learning Center grants. Dr. Blanchard received many awards throughout her teaching career, but the most memorable award was given to her in 2003 when she was chosen to represent the state of Louisiana as the recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching, awarded by President George W. Bush.
Dr. Blanchard came to Louisiana State University in 2009 where she served as the Operations Manager for the Masters of Natural Sciences degree in the College of Science. She directed the processes for the Louisiana Math and Science Teachers’ Institute (LaMSTI), a $5 million grant from the National Science Foundation and the Central Louisiana Academic Residency Program for Teachers (CART), a $16 million grant from the United States Department of Education. Both programs support middle and high school STEM teachers to pursue advanced degrees. Currently, Dr. Blanchard is the Assistant Dean for the College of Agriculture, where she supervises the Student Services Department, the Online Task Force, Student Recruitment and Retention, Dual Enrollment, International Student Programs, and other initiatives as assigned by the Dean. Dr. Blanchard also designs, develops, and delivers instruction for the School of Human Resource Education and Workforce Development.
Dr. Blanchard’s research focus is in the areas of leadership development and evaluation, particularly in K-20 education. Drawing on her experience as a classroom teacher and a district level supervisor, Dr. Blanchard has a passion for designing professional development programs and finding meaningful and effective methods of teacher leadership development and evaluation. Her dissertation researched the method of using self-assessment of efficacy and student feedback as a component of teacher evaluation, and she continues her research as it relates to leadership development and evaluation across all workforce areas.
