In November, Assistant Professors, Dr. Petra A Robinson and Dr. JC Bunch travelled to Jamaica to plan a major international biennial conference on Urban Education.
The International Conference on Urban Education (ICUE) will feature multidisciplinary, multinational research on issues related to increasing education opportunities in urban settings and improving quality healthcare and wellness. The conference will be held in beautiful Montego Bay, Jamaica November 6-8, 2014 and will have featured sessions focused on Girl’s/Women’s Health and Wellness and Academic Achievement of Boys and Young Men. In addition, other conference strands will focus on Agricultural and Extension Education; Business Development and Economics; Civic and Environmental Responsibility; Education (all contexts); Health and Wellness; Human Resource, Career, and Workforce Development; Safety and Violence Prevention; and Science Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). The conference theme is
Building and Sustaining Global Partnerships for Learning and Development.
Dr. Robinson works directly with the leadership team of the Urban Education Collaborative at University of North Carolina at Charlotte and she leads the overall LSU-ICUE collaboration. As Co-Executive Director of ICUE, she shares responsibility for a variety of areas including: International Relations; Teacher and Student Fellow Academies in Baton Rouge; Fundraising; Media Publications and Logistics.
Dr. Bunch, who is the Coordinator of Agricultural Education Programs at LSU visited Jamaica and established collaborative partnerships with agricultural agencies, schools, and local farmers to develop future working relationships between LSU and Jamaica. Dr. Bunch’s work will strengthen the Agricultural and Extension Education strand at ICUE 2014.
The ICUE is based on a multi-university partnership (UNC-Charlotte, Lousiana State University, The University of the West Indies, Mona, and Rutgers University), which has a global reach with direct impact on our own local Baton Rouge communities.
