Dr. Bates, Professor in the School of Human Resource Education and Workforce Development, has just returned from a CHART meeting in Kingston, Jamaica. CHART, Caribbean HIV AIDS Regional Training, is a Network’s Regional Training Strategy. Dr. Bates has been the Human Resources Health Advisor for CHART since January 2013, with CHART’s focus to facilitate health system strengthening training in the Caribbean. CHART is associated with the Vice Chancellor’s Office at the University of West Indies. The meeting was held at the University of West Indies regional headquarters, and outlined options for capacity building through education and training. There were two main points discussed: 1) Identifying challenges to further the implementation of the Caribbean Human Resources for a health road map and 2) Identifying an advisory group to assist in the development of two competency models, Health Systems Policy, Analysis, & Development and Health Workforce Planning.
The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), founded in 1902 and the world’s oldest international public health agency, has invited Dr. Bates to attend the Third Global Forum on Human Resources for Health this year. Dr. Bates will be a representative of CHART at this event in November of this year, in Recife, Brazil.
