Your student ID card will be used to gain access to a residence hall. In most cases, a key will still be required to enter your room, however, there are some locations where entrance to bedrooms may be granted using your student ID card. These locations include the Residential College Complex, Blake Hall, and East and West Laville Halls.
The Department of Residential Life currently uses two card access technologies,
How do I use my Card?
Online system: Insert your ID card with the magnetic strip facing left and the top of your card toward the reader. Swipe your ID card through the card reader from top to bottom at a medium speed and wait for the green light. If the green light does not come on, double check to make sure that you are swiping your ID card correctly. Also try swiping your card with an upward motion or varying the speed of your swipe.
Offline system: Insert you ID card (face first) into the hotel-style lock. Once the lock displays a yellow light, enter your PIN number in the keypad. When the light turns green, you may enter the door.
If you experience any problems with you card of if you would like to report a security concern (i.e. – propped door), please contact a residence hall staff member.
