Welcome back, Tigers!

Welcome back, Tigers for the Spring 2017 semester! We hope you all had a great holiday break. Here are a few important reminders to allow for a smooth start to the semester:

  • There will be a grace period for UNREGISTERED & OUT-OF-ZONE violations ONLY through January 30, 2017.
    • UNREGISTERED: not having a 2016-2017 parking permit displayed when parking on campus.
    • OUT-OF-ZONE: not parking within one’s designated parking zone based your parking permit (i.e. Commuter, Resident, Greek, Law)
      • Parking within an employee area results in an OUT-OF-ZONE B-C violation which is NOT included in this grace period.
  • The final day to pick up or update your parking permit is January 27, 2017.
  • South Stadium shuttles will pick up students in the commuter parking lots near the Vet School and drop students off all along South Stadium Drive to alleviate stress on commuter parking lots.
  • Campus Transit buses are available from 5:00PM to 12:00AM to bring students around campus.
  • The Union Square Garage has metered parking available for those patrons looking to park closer to central campus. Please note, if you park within one of these spaces (even with a parking permit) you MUST pay the meter.
    • Spaces are available at a rate of $1.50/hour and accept cash, credit, and debit cards. Please note: only pay with exact change at the meters as they do not produce change.

C-28 South Entrance Closure

Beginning Monday, Dec. 19 – Wednesday, Dec. 21, the south entrance to Powerhouse Lane on Fieldhouse Drive will be closed due to maintenance on the cooling towers. Please note: parking spaces will NOT be affected & only the entrance will be offline.  The powerhouse & maintenance staff will be setting up a crane on Powerhouse Lane between Johnston Hall and the Powerhouse. See the picture below for reference.

c28_-dec-19-21

Please be mindful of the maintenance crews and equipment in this area. Remember to yield to all pedestrians in cross walks as LSU is a walking campus. Patrons with access to C-28 Powerhouse will still be able to access the C-28 Powerhouse Lane lot via North Stadium Road.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our Parking Dispatch at (225) 578-5002. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding during this maintenance project.

Zone B Parking Update

In efforts to improve traffic safety on campus, LSU Parking & Transportation Services needs to remove four (4) Zone B parking spaces located on South Stadium Drive across from the LSU Ag Center Dairy Store (see picture below). These spaces currently hinder our TigerTrails buses from approaching and exiting the bus terminal on South Stadium Drive at Tower Drive. Zone B Parkers are encouraged to utilize designated parking along CEBA lane and across Nicholson Drive Extension.

As a reminder, LSU Parking & Transportation Services offers on-campus Jitney Service for employees Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Employees may contact 225-578-5000 to schedule a pickup and drop-off. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we work to improve your LSU experience.

LSU Home Football Games – Parking Information

The Office of Parking & Transportation Services will strictly enforce game day weekend parking lot restrictions in the Cypress Drive South Lot (formally, Tennis Courts Lot) (Lot 206). For all home football games, all residents must relocate all vehicles out of the Cypress Drive South Lot (formally, Tennis Courts Lot) (Lot 206) into non–restricted parking lots before 7 a.m. on game day, but we recommend you move your cars by Friday evening.

Any vehicles found in this restricted lot or any other restricted areas on Saturday morning will be towed at the owner’s expense. The remaining home football dates are Sept. 17, Oct. 1, Oct. 15, Oct. 22, Nov. 5, and Nov. 19, and these same restrictions will apply.

There are also several other areas where parking will be restricted on campus, such as the Nicholson side of the Fieldhouse, Cypress Drive, Fieldhouse Drive, and Dalrymple Drive (just to name a few), so if you are unsure of where to park on game days, please review parking information at www.lsusports.net/parking.

Here are some suggestions on lots where you can park that are not restricted on game days: the resident lots by the West Campus Apartments and Kirby Smith Hall, Spruce Hart Lot (formally, Hart Lot) near Cypress Hall, lots across Aster Street from Kirby Smith Hall and WCA, as well as the Cypress Drive North (formally, Old Tiger Park) gravel lot on the corner of Cypress and W. Chimes.

COMMUTERS: All vehicles parked in the South Stadium Lot (Lot 401), Nicholson Extension Central Lot (Touchdown Village 1), Nicholson Extension East Lot/West Parker Lot (Touchdown Village 2) must be moved by 5 p.m. on every Friday before a home football game. Any vehicle found in these lots restricted beginning at 5 p.m., may be relocated or ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense. Some suggestions on lots where you can park that are not restricted beginning at 5 p.m. on Fridays before a home football game: Old Front Nine grass lot off of Nicholson Drive Extension, Ag (Parker) Coliseum Lot off of Highland Road at South Stadium Drive and Highland Road at East Parker, Golf Course Lots off of Gourrier Ave.

All central access gates to campus will remain closed until 4:59 p.m. on every Friday before a home football game. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our office or LSU Athletics.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Career Expo 9/7/16-9/8/16

On September 7th & September 8th, the LSU Olinde Career Center will be hosting a career expo for current students and alumni. Due to the large amount of businesses, organizations, and professional programs, X79 and X80 (Bernie Moore Lot & Natatorium Lot) along with 100 spaces in the West Stadium Lot (Lot 101) will be reserved for these visitors to our campus.

An option for commuters that normally park in these areas is to park in the lots near the Vet School and all other exterior lots on Skip Bertman Drive. Two campus transit shuttles will be constantly picking up students from these areas and bringing them into campus, similarly to a Tiger Trails bus. Per LSU Student Government here is more information on their Facebook page or ours.

Please be aware of these closures, pay attention to the officers in the area, and be attentive while behind the wheel. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at (225) 578-5000.

Grace Period Clarification & Appeals Process

Good afternoon LSU,

We hope the Fall 2016 semester has gone well for everyone so far! Based on phone calls, emails, and in-person conversations, there has been some confusion in regards to the grace period for the fall semester. First off, we’d like to apologize if we have caused any confusion on our part. However, please note that we have posted multiple times about this grace period and what it entails. In order to clear up some confusion, please read the following prompts below that indicate which tickets are included in the grace period and those that are not. Please remember the grace period will only last until SEPTEMBER 9TH.

  • Tickets INCLUDED in the grace period:
    • UNREGISTERED – parking on campus without a parking permit. However, a student, faculty or staff member, and visitors must be parked within his or her correct zone of parking (i.e. students in student areas, employees in employee areas, visitors in visitor’s spaces)
    • OUT-OF-ZONE – parking within another parking zone on campus (i.e. commuters parking in resident areas, residents parking in Greek areas, etc.)
    • IMPROPER DISPLAY – not displaying your parking permit in a correct manner as indicated by our rules and regulations.
  • Tickets NOT INCLUDED in the grace period:
    • FIRE LANE – parking within an area marked as a fire lane with either red curb paint, diagonal lines, or university signage. **TOWABLE OFFENSE**
    • HANDICAPPED SPACES – parking within a handicapped space without the proper credentials (i.e. a state issued handicapped placard or license plate). **TOWABLE OFFENSE**
    • MEDICAL SPACES – parking within a medical space without the proper parking permit issued by our office. **TOWABLE OFFENSE**
    • RESERVED SPACES – parking within a space that is reserved by curb markings or university signage. **TOWABLE OFFENSE**
      • If you are parked in one of these areas and your vehicle does not match the vehicle or permit that belongs to this space, you may receive an unregistered citation if no permit is displayed because you are not parked within your correct area.
    • TRAVEL LANE – parking within a lane of travel which prevents vehicles from passing. **TOWABLE OFFENSE**
    • HAZARDOUS PARKING – parking in a manner that presents a safety hazard or hazard to the LSU community. **TOWABLE OFFENSE**
    • NO PARKING ZONE – parking in an area designated as a no parking zone by curb markings or university signage.
    • LAWN – parking on the grass. **TOWABLE OFFENSE**
    • IMPROPER PARKING – parking in more than one space, parking over the front line of the indicated parking space, not being fully in the parking space, etc.
    • AGAINST THE FLOW – backing into a diagonal space which will force the driver to drive in the opposite direction of traffic flow in order to leave the parking space.
    • OVERTIME PARKING – parking within a metered space and not paying the meters.
      • If you have a parking pass displayed and you park within a metered space, you ARE required to pay the meter still.
    • For students, OUT-OF-ZONE B-C: parking within an employee area during the hours of 7:00am to 4:30pm. **TOWABLE OFFENSE**

If for some reason, you believe you were ticketed unjustly, we would like for you to file a formal appeal via our online website form. Appeals will not be heard in person or over the phone. Appeals are heard by a student or employee appeals board comprised of student or employee leaders not affiliated with the parking office and are chosen by either Student Government or Faculty Senate. If you would like to file an appeal for a ticket received, please click here.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our office at either parking@lsu.edu or (225) 578-5000. We hope this clarifies the confusion of the grace period for the LSU community.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation,

LSU Parking & Transportation Services Staff

FAQ’s, Reminders, & Parking Updates – 08.22.2016

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • I haven’t received my parking permit. What do I do?
    • Hang tight! All permits should be issued by September 2nd. If for some reason you do not receive your permit by that time, please contact our office at your earliest conveinence.
      • Due to the flooding and weather, mail service has been very slow. Please allow the post office some time to deliver your parking permits.
    • Permits are available for pickup at this time. Please check your LSU email for updates in regards to either the shipment of permits or if your permit was delivered to our office instead of your home. You receive an email if we have your parking permit.
  • I moved recently, but forgot to update my address in myLSU. Where is my permit going?
    • Your permit will be either going to the address on file before July 13th or it will return to sender (our office). Our recommendation would be to contact the U.S. Postal Service and/or the previous address if you are able to do so before coming into our office.
  • I don’t need my permit anymore. Can I just give or sell it to a friend?
    • No. Please note, if you do this, you are violating the Student Code of Conduct and will be held responsible for all tickets and violations received with this permit. Remember, your permit is tied to your LSU ID number which is essentially your social security number. So, it’s just advised that you should not.
  • Will I receive a ticket if I park on campus without a parking permit?
    • No, you will not receive a violation for parking on campus without a parking permit. As of right now until September 6th, there is a ticketing grace period for UNREGISTERED & OUT-OF-ZONE violations as long as you are parked within a legal parking space in the student areas.
      • Patrons parked within a handicapped space, fire lane, no parking zones, medical spaces, reserved spaces, etc. are subject to receive a violation and possibly even be towed if it presents a safety hazard (parking within handicapped spaces and fire lanes are towable offenses). Parking within any of these spaces with hazard lights activated does not guarantee this person will not receive a violation per our rules and regulations (University Traffic Summonses/Citations; Paragraphs: 44-51).
  • We strongly recommend not parking within a handicapped or medical space without the proper credentials, parking within a fire lane, reserved space(s) or in a no parking zone. You are subject to receiving a parking violation as well as being towed.
  • The lines are going to be so long before school starts. How will I ever get my parking permit on time?
    • No worries! We will have extended hours on Saturday, August 27th from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
      • Please note: Parking Services will be the only office open on these dates. We are located in the Campus Public Safety Building on South Stadium Road.
  • I no longer need my parking permit. How can I get a refund?
    • If you no longer need your parking permit, you must come in by September 30th in order to receive a full refund. A refund will not be issued unless the issued permit is returned. There are NO exceptions to this.
  • I’m bringing a bike to campus. Do I need to register it with LSU?
    • Yes! Please register your bike with LSUPD as soon as possible in the event of theft or loss of your bike.
    • Also, check out the FREE LSU Shield App offered by LSUPD!

Reminders:
