LSU students are a diverse group. They come from all over the globe with different dreams, goals, and aspirations for their respective futures. Here is a chance to get to know them one at a time. No matter his or her academic discipline, everyone has a story to tell…including you!
Q: What made you decide to attend LSU?
A: The summer before my senior year of high school, I was invited to an intense leadership program at UCLA. The two weeks I spent there allowed me to see, firsthand, the superb intellectual environment American universities are so renowned for. It was then that I decided that I wanted to pursue my college education in the United States.
I chose LSU because I felt it fit with the type of college experience I was seeking. Of course, Mike the Tiger was an added bonus.
Q: Are there things that surprised you about LSU?
A: Coming from an “alpha” global city such as Mexico City, my transition to college was challenging at times. It took me a while to adapt to a small city lifestyle. I had to face a cultural clash not only with American culture but also with American college culture. I would definitely have to thank southern hospitality for making the transition smooth. Everyone has been extremely nice to me and made me feel very welcome to the LSU community since day one.
Q: What are your goals and how is LSU helping you accomplish them?
A: My goals are to make a difference in the financial industry and add significant value to Goldman Sachs when I join the firm this summer as a full-time analyst. I eventually would like to start my own company with a focus on global markets. I also want to establish my own charity for research on the cure of keloid skin conditions.
I strongly believe LSU has provided me with a solid educational and professional foundation to succeed in all my future endeavors. I am extremely grateful for all the support and guidance I have received from the faculty, employees, colleagues, sponsors, and friends of the E. J. Ourso College of Business. I am very enthusiastic about having the opportunity to represent LSU in my personal and professional endeavors.
Q: If a student was considering attending LSU, what would you share with him/her about your LSU experience?
My experience at LSU has been extremely transformative and enlightening. LSU provides a unique college experience where students are exposed to diverse departments and colleges; at the same time it promotes a strong sense of community through its athletics activities and other outreach efforts. I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting students and future colleagues from diverse industries and backgrounds that I know will become leading professionals.
Also, I think one of LSU’s strongest assets is its “Tiger pride” culture and the level of involvement and commitment by its alumni to continue to give back to the university and assist current students with job opportunities.
Upon graduation, I will begin a new chapter of my life when I move to New York City. But wherever my career might take me, I can proudly say that I will forever Love Purple Live Gold.
