Hazardous Materials Management

The Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) is responsible for management of LSU’s Hazardous Waste Program.  EHS has a long history of helping the LSU community with waste disposal.  EHS collects waste and ensures is disposal in a safe and regulatory compliant manner.

EHS would like to introduce a new method of requesting disposal of waste disposal.  The waste disposal module of the Environmental Health Safety Assistant (EHSA) has been activated.  EHSA is an environmental management database that is available online to researchers and staff within the LSU community.   EHSA is a web based program and a link is provided below.  Your PAWS ID and password allow access to the system.  If you have difficulty accessing the system, please contact EHS and we can adjust the internal security settings so that you should be able to see information relating to your research group.

The waste disposal program remains the same.  Containers must be in good condition and properly labeled.  Upon receipt of the request, your waste should be picked up within ten working days.  The EHSA waste disposal is associated with the chemical inventory program and will allow better tracking of waste.  Waste profiles have been created within the system and users will be able to use drop down menus to describe their waste.  Another significant feature is that the lab can generate a printed waste label that is regulatory compliant.

During the transition to the EHSA on-line waste request, hard copies of Hazardous waste Collection Request and Email waste request will be accepted.  The hard copy form may be printed and faxed to Joyce Gibbs at 578-7489 or sent by mail to 217 Copy and Mail Center or scanned to hazwaste@lsu.edu.   Each container must be labeled with the contents. Each different chemical or mixture to be collected must be listed on the request form as a separate line item. All information must be completed on this form.
