What is a Quality Enhancement Plan?
A Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is part of LSU’s reaffirmation of accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Universities like LSU go through reaffirmation every 10 years. The QEP is a plan that engages the entire LSU community (faculty, students, staff, and administrators) in identifying and addressing a well-defined topic that contributes to improving LSU as a whole and strengthening your ability to learn. The QEP initiative that LSU chose to pursue is undergraduate research and it is being called LSU Discover. The purpose of LSU Discover is to enhance student learning by strengthening and expanding undergraduate research across LSU’s many and varied curricula.
What is the importance of the QEP for LSU?
LSU is seeking reaffirmation of accreditation from SACSCOC. Accreditation is important to you and to LSU because it enhances the quality and value of your degree and allows LSU to continue to operate as an institution of higher learning. LSU Discover is a big part of LSU’s reaffirmation process, which is already underway and will be finalized in 2014. The proposed QEP plan will focus on providing you and your fellow students with opportunities to participate in exciting research and creative activities that will help to shape the way we all live in the world.
