Resident Assistant Position Application Process
A Resident Assistant (RA) is a student employed by the Department of Residential Life to live in a residence hall and work as part of a staff team in order to build a positive living and learning environment and community experience for residents. An RA serves as a liaison between the residents of the community and the Department of Residential Life. The RA reports directly to the Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) and Graduate Residence Director (GRD).
An RA is expected to know the residents in his or her community on a personal basis and to advise individuals and groups of residents on academic and personal matters. Each RA is expected to create and encourage activities and programs that enhance community and meet residents’ personal and academic needs. The RA serves as a role model for students in every aspect of University life and is expected to know various campus resources available to students.

How to Apply
Complete the Resident Assistant application, and return the paper copy to Grace King Hall Room 210. Please note that a completed application includes an update resume.
Application are due by January 27, 2014 at 10 a.m. due to LSU being closed on Janaury 24, 2014. There are no exceptions to this deadline.
Candidates are encouraged to attend one of our 10 information sessions to learn more about the ins and outs of being a Resident Assistant. Information sessions are let by our Residence Life Coordinators and Graduate Residence Directors and feature a panel of current RA’s to answer your questions. You are not required to attend one, but they can be a helpful way for you to gain information about the position.

Information sessions are open to everyone regardless of where they live. If a session in another hall works best for your schedule, feel free to attend! Off campus students can attend our Apartment community information sessions as there is ample parking and open access to the activity centers during those times.
Interview Process Overview
The Resident Assistant interview process is a multi-event process in which students participate. The process is designed to evaluate candidate’s abilities to work independently and within a group, and gain an understanding of how students may understand and support the residential student experience. There are three required elements to the interview process. If candidates cannot complete any of these dates, they are ineligible for the RA position.
Open House Night
All candidates will be required to attend an Open House session on Friday January 31st. This session is designed to introduce them to their group members for the Group Process and to give them a chance to gain an overview of all of LSU’s Residential communities. Candidates will have time to interact with each of our staff’s and gain information and ask questions about what it’s like to work in that community.
Candidates will go through a group interview which consists of a series of activities over a 3 hour block. Group Process occurs on Saturday February 1. Candidates will focus on working in teams, problem solving and fostering an inclusive environment.
Candidates who successfully complete the Group Process will be invited to participate in an individual interview with a Residence Life Coordinator, Graduate Residence Director and Resident Assistant on either February 11th or 12th.
