Residential Colleges

Residential colleges enjoy all the same amenities and features of traditional residence halls, but they also maximize the on-campus living experience by creating smaller communities and fostering greater student–faculty interaction beyond the classroom. Residential colleges are for first-year students, and are either major-specific or interest-based and open to all majors.

If LSU appeals to you, but you’re also attracted by the advantages of a smaller college or university, residential colleges are the perfect option for you. Join a residential college and have the best of both. Residential colleges make LSU feel smaller, as you live, study, and explore with a smaller group of students who share similar interests as you. Don’t forget that year after year, students who participate in a residential college have higher GPAs and graduation rates and are more likely to continue on to their next year of college.

The mission statement for the LSU Residential Colleges Program is to provide a seamless living-learning environment which fosters the development of three core outcomes: critical thinking ability, communication skills, and sense of community and social responsibility. Pedagogical strategies are not necessarily different from that which would occur in a non-residential college classroom to achieve the outcomes, but the environment itself provides more opportunities for achieving them, both inside and outside of the classroom.
