This fall incoming first-year students at LSU will have one more resource to help them pick a major and explore various career paths with the introduction of the Career Discovery Residential College (CDRC) in Broussard Hall.
The new program will replace the Information Technology Residential College that is currently in Broussard Hall, but will still incorporate technology into its curriculum and programming.
The CDRC is open to incoming first-year students of all majors who could benefit from guidance in selecting their major and career path. Social and academic programs in the residential college are geared toward personal strength discovery, career exploration, and searching various majors within LSU and their related careers. The residential college will collaborate with LSU Career Services, the Center for Academic Success, and the University College Center for Freshman Year to offer programs and services to its residents.
Residents will be required to participate in the residential college course curriculum, with some classes taught in the two state-of-the-art classrooms in Broussard Hall. Students will use various technology pieces to take strength inventories, career aptitude surveys, and more.
With six discipline-based residential colleges, LSU Res Life is excited to expand its offering of interest-based residential colleges to students majoring outside of the established discipline-based res colleges for agriculture, business, engineering, humanities and social sciences, mass communication, and science. The CDRC joins the Herget freshman experience residential college as valuable options for all first-year students regardless of major.
Residential colleges enjoy all the same amenities and features of traditional residence halls, but they also maximize the on-campus living experience by creating smaller communities and fostering greater student–faculty interaction beyond the classroom. The world-class facilities, scholars, and programs available at residents’ doorsteps consistently prove their value with on-campus first-year students having higher retention rates to second year, higher GPAs, and higher graduation rates than their off-campus peers.
