Herget Hall is home of the Herget Residential College, as well as the Leadership & Service Living-Learning Community.
Herget Residential College (HRC) was LSU’s first residential college and has been a thriving first-year community since its opening in 2000. HRC focuses on its students having a highly successful first-year experience by helping them to quickly find their niche, meet new friends and even faculty members.
Herget provides its residents many opportunities to meet new friends, participate in programs with a strong faculty presence, as well as take two classes together with their Herget peers. Some of these classes will be taught in the in-hall classroom! Some of the many Herget activities include Herget Theater night, where students attend an LSU performance and get a chance to talk with the production team and/or writers, Herget Movies nights, pizza parties, and much more. Additionally, many Herget residents participate in Greek Recruitment Week and are very active in Greek Life.
Students coming from smaller high schools and communities find Herget Residential College a great place to get a great start on the college experience! Residential Colleges help provide that ‘small college’ feel at a large university like LSU, while enjoying all of the benefits of being on a large research university.
Your first year will be full of changes, concerns, and questions. Herget Residential College can help you make an easier transition to college life. Participants are all first-year students who live in Herget Hall. Students take several classes together, creating a “mini-campus” atmosphere. Participants also interact with faculty members and other freshmen to continue learning outside the classroom.
Herget Residential College provides more than just a place to live. The program is designed to integrate learning with community living. Students not only live together; they also share common courses, with several English classes taught in the new state-of-the-art multimedia smart classroom off the Herget lobby.
Faculty involvement is an exceptional plus for Herget Residential College students. Some faculty hold office hours and review sessions there. As a result of increased faculty and student interaction, both students and faculty find learning to be a more engaging and rewarding experience.
