LSU GeauxShop Reaches Operation Enduring Freedom

LSU Director of Financial Systems Services Justin Thornton was scheduled to be part of the user group that tested the university’s new e-procurment system, LSU GeauxShop, on June 12 and 13. But when Thornton was called to duty by the Louisiana National Guard on those same days, he still showed his support for the new system by wearing his LSU GeauxShop T-shirt under his uniform.

Thornton was at Ft. Hood, Texas, with other leaders from his unit, the 756th Area Support Medical Company out of Carville, La. He was called to Ft. Hood in June for a mobilization site visit to receive various briefings explaining what his unit can expect while going through the mobilization process. The unit is being deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to Afghanistan, where it will be responsible for providing medical care to U.S. and coalition forces at multiple locations across the country. It is deploying in October for approximately nine months after 38 days of mobilization training at Ft. Hood.

Thornton’s unit provides treatment and evacuation services and includes combat medics, physician assistants, nurses, surgeons, dentists and general doctors. Thornton, the executive officer of the unit, is part of the command and control group, and is responsible for the overall personnel, equipment, training, security and logistics of the unit. He reports directly to the company commander.

At LSU, Thornton is responsible for financial system development, support, reporting, the Thomas Boyd computer and network support area, and development of BPM processes.

Procurement Services To Obtain Best Prices For Office Supplies

In conjunction with the implementation of LSU GeauxShop, Procurement Services has begun a strategic sourcing effort to solicit a single office supply contract that will offer discounted prices for all of the University’s office supply needs. A request for proposal will be prepared and issued to ensure LSU receives the lowest pricing possible for office supplies through LSU GeauxShop. Amy Bourgeois is the point of contact for this particular effort and may be contacted for any questions.

Members of the LSU GeauxShop core team and user group spent two days testing the university’s new e-procurement system to find ways to make it as user-friendly as possible for the campus community. LSU GeauxShop will transform the university’s purchasing process, providing the campus with a one-stop shopping environment that will work in much the same way as typical Internet shopping sites, such as Amazon.com.

A core group of LSU employees worked with outside consultants to create LSU GeauxShop, the university’s new e-procurement system. The new system will streamline the purchasing process at LSU, making it simpler and more user friendly.

A group of LSU employees from across campus was selected to serve as members of a user group to test LSU GeauxShop, the university’s new e-procurement system. The group spent June 12-13 testing the system and offering suggestions to improve the system and make it as user-friendly as possible. LSU GeauxShop will launch in Fall 2012.

Naming Contest Winner Announced

LSU Athletics Coordinator of Sports Nutrition Jamie Mascari was recently named the winner of the LSU eProcurement system's naming contest, as voted on by the campus community. Mascari was one of several members of the LSU community who suggested the winning name, LSU GeauxShop. All those who suggested the name were entered into a drawing, and Mascari’s name was pulled to win an LSU gift basket and football jersey. The prize was presented by Marie Frank, executive director of Procurement Services at LSU.
