Post-Program “Walk-About” to Follow
Cost: Members: $10.00 ~ Non-Members: $15.00
The mantra of this year’s PlantFest! XXXII is “Bringing Natives Home”. The annual pre-sale PlantFest! Teaser, set for Sunday, September 27, will set the stage. LSU Professor Emeritus and landscape architect, Wayne Womack, will wax eloquent on native trees and shrubs. Mila Berhane, of Greenhand Nursery fame, will delight us with her focus on perennials. Both will offer friendly reminders that no matter how much any individual garden may seem like a separate place, it is in truth part of the larger landscape in which all plants, but native plants in particular, are not only beautiful, but provide the biodiversity needed for a healthy, functioning ecosystem.
To put the “tease” in this annual PlantFest! “pre-quel”, one of each of the plants presented will be eligible for purchase. We will host a drawing to determine who gets to purchase what. The rules of engagement are as follows:
• only Teaser registrants may participate
• they may put their name in up to six plant hats
• and they must be present to win their opportunity to purchase
If this isn’t enough to set your horticultural barometer rising, the post-program “walk about” with the speakers through the field of plant dreams ought to do it. Scheduled six days prior to the “main event”, the Teaser will find the PlantFest! arena already set up with plants in their final nestling place and their infomercial signs installed.
What better occasion to start your plant list and check it twice, to determine which plants will be naughty or nice for your landscape AND guess-timate just how many wagons and co-conspirators you will need to achieve your gardening mission.
Questions or to Register for the Teaser call 225.767.6916 or email email@example.com.
PlantFest! proper is set for Saturday and Sunday, OCTOBER 3rd and 4th, at the Arboretum.
