Chemical Safety

  • Chemical Hygiene Plan

The Chemical Hygiene Plan describes the safe and proper use, handling practices, and procedures to be followed by personnel working in University laboratories necessary to protect them from potential health and physical hazards presented by chemicals used in the workplace, and to keep chemical exposures below specified limits. The laboratory safety requirements apply to all faculty, staff, and students engaged in the laboratory use of hazardous chemicals.

  • Chemical Inventory Management System

The Chemical Inventory Management System program from On-Site Systems is a commercial program that is user friendly and extremely powerful and provides a strong inventory program with compliance features.

EHS is requesting that lab personnel to concentrate on the Chem Section and specifically the Inventory Section. Laboratories are required to maintain their chemical inventory by adding and deleting chemicals as required.  The permit worker section can be used to add personnel as needed.  The training section shows the working training the has been completed.  The waste pickup section is under review for potential use.  EHS does not plan to activate the requisition section at this time.

The program is web based.  Your ID is the first part of your PAWS email. Your initial password is 1234. You will be required to change your password when you first log on. We have set the internal security so that you should be able to see the chemicals only belonging to your PI.

Additional information and function are being added to the system on a regular basis.  Currently the Admin, Emergency Response, and Department Blocks are not active. Feel free to call (8-4314) or Email (jsteward@lsu.edu) with problems, suggestions, or concerns.
