You can be the change you want to see in the world and have the experience of a lifetime by becoming a member of the CHANGE Break: Vancouver 2014 team. From January 3-13, 2014, the CHANGE Break team will travel to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, for an unforgettable, ten-day alternative service break working in an urban setting with marginalized populations, including First Nations, LGBT, and the mentally ill.
About CHANGE Break
LSU’s alternative service break programs began in 2012 when fifteen students and three advisors embarked on a 10-day service experience in Peru. The group completed construction work and led instruction in an after-school program in Cusco, a large city, and Cai Cay, a small village, in Peru. The group completed various English-teaching and outdoor activities that they had planned throughout the spring semester. Not only did they help impact the lives of those they served, but they experienced a change in themselves.
As a member of the CHANGE Break: Vancouver 2014 team, you will meet with your teammates each week in November to prepare for the trip. This is a service-learning trip, so we will reflect on our experiences before, during, and after the trip.
The participant fee for CHANGE Break Vancouver is $550. This fee covers flight, transportation, and accommodations in country, travel insurance, and some meals. You will be responsible for covering your passport and visa if needed (U.S. citizens are not required to obtain a visa), any vaccinations, souvenirs, and some meals. On November 5, $150 of this fee will be due. The remaining $400 will be due on November 19.
To apply, please complete the online application and submit a résumé and a cover letter by Wednesday, October 16 via email to Volunteer LSU. The cover letter should explain why you wish to apply to become a member of the CHANGE Break Vancouver team and what you would bring to the CHANGE Break team.
We highly recommend visiting LSU Career Services for assistance with your résumé and cover letter.
