Each year during the first few weeks of school, new and returning students come together to enjoy a musical celebration of the start of school and the reuniting of the Tiger family for another school year. The concert is held on the LSU Parade Ground for a warm-weather, outdoor concert feel. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets to relax on the Parade Ground with your friends.
LSU Campus Life is excited to welcome hip-hop artist XV for an exciting set.
The Back to School Concert is free for all students, faculty, and staff, but a Tiger Card LSU ID is required for admittance onto the concert ground in front of the stage.
About the Artist
It is a constant struggle for an artist to find himself in an industry filled with clones, and many get lost in the search. It’s also a battle for a brand new artist to come out and just be themselves. XV is proof that it is a battle that you can win. After gaining national attention with the release of his DJ Enuff assisted mixtape, “Everybody’s Nobody,” XV signed to Warner Bros. Records, becoming the first hip-hop artist from Kansas to sign a major record deal.
The 29-year old Wichita, Kansas native looks like a fresh face to the music industry, but he has been working towards becoming a household name for some time now. Since 2006, XV has released an independent album, over 15 mixtapes, and an EP through Warner Bros. Records. All of this work has been on the road to releasing a completely concept-driven album which XV calls, “The Kid With The Green Backpack,” and this album, 5 years in the making, just may be the big pay off.
“My Grandmother used to tell me don’t aspire to be someone, be something.” He found that this something he would become is a “Squarian.” A clever way of describing a person who doesn’t fit into any circles while embracing being different. After promoting this lifestyle through various mixtapes, live shows, interviews, and visuals, his fanbase began to find themselves as “Squarians,” too. The idea has grown beyond hip-hop, as XV has began incorporating the Squarian brand into his merchandise, films, and even comic books.
XV’s story began with music, but is sure to extend beyond the recording studio and stage, just as he has went beyond the realms of his Kansas hometown. But it will begin with, “The Kid With The Green Backpack,” a story XV has held onto tell only for his debut album five years in the making.
