What is your favorite LSU memory?
When we were undergraduate students, my future spouse asked me to marry her on a sunny October afternoon while we ate lunch on the lawn of the LSU Old President’s Home. A year later my LSU Vet School Pharmacy supervisor, Dr. Marvene Augustus, hosted our wedding reception in her home. We married at Christ the King Catholic Church the next day and held our reception at the newly-renovated Varsity Theater.
What is your best college leadership experience?
My best collegiate experience was serving as Chairperson for the Union Referendum Committee from fall 1994 to spring 1995. Our amazing coalition of student leaders, student employees and elected student representatives sought to raise our student fee support of the Union facility and student programming for the first time since 1955. Our facility lacked effective security measures and lighting, funding for basic services and the capacity to respond to increasing student programming needs. After nearly a year of hard work and the unwavering support of Union Programs Director Shirley Plakidas and her staff, our Union Referendum Committee was successful in the Spring 1995 referendum ballot measure with the student body. This was even more amazing since our successful effort followed a failed Union Referendum vote for the same needs in spring 1993.
