Transfer Coursework Eligibility
LSU accepts all college-level, academic coursework from regionally-accredited institutions, as well as international coursework from institutions recognized by that country’s Ministry of Education.
Senior College Specifications
Credit allowed by Undergraduate Admissions is, in all cases, subject to review by a student’s senior college, regarding if credit will apply to a particular degree. Some senior colleges have specific rules for transfer grades and will only accept a “C” or better for required courses, or some will only accept a particular GPA in courses applied to a major. It is recommended that students carefully review senior college requirements and consult with their prospective senior college if they have specific questions about a particular program or degree.
Tiger Transfer Tables
The Tiger Transfer Tables reflect courses that have previously been evaluated by faculty at LSU for transfer equivalency. It is intended as a resource for students, but it is not a comprehensive list of all colleges or transferable courses.
Master Course Articulation Matrix
For all in-state two and four year public institutions, LSU participates in the Articulation Matrix, which is a crosswalk of how freshman and sophomore level courses transfer amongst the state.
Louisiana Transfer Degree
The Louisiana Transfer Degree is an easy transfer for students from a 2-year community college to a Louisiana 4-year public university. Courses are prescribed in the curricula to earn an Associate of Arts/Louisiana Transfer Degree or an Associate of Science/Louisiana Transfer Degree. If these degrees are earned and a minimum grade of “C” is achieved in each course, then all 60 hours of course work will transfer to a Louisiana public 4-year university. Students must also meet LSU’s transfer admission requirements to be admitted.
Veterans and service members are eligible for one credit hour for every four months of active duty, with a maximum of 12 credit hours for four years of active duty. Military transcripts are evaluated for each applicant, and additional credit may be awarded. This credit will be awarded on a case-by-case basis for lower-level courses. All upper-level courses are accepted, excluding duplicates.
Current and former service members can send military transcripts through the Joint Service Transcript System. Once logged in, select Transcripts, then Official Transcript Request. Search for “Louisiana State,” and select online delivery to Louisiana State University-Baton Rouge.
Credit Transfer Examples
Direct Equivalent Transfer
If your transfer course is determined to be an exact equivalent to the corresponding LSU course, your course will be assigned an LSU course number.
Example: ENGL 101 = ENGL 1001
Transfer by Title
If your transfer course is determined not to be an exact equivalent to a LSU course, your course is transferable by title as elective credits.
Example: ENGL 200 = ENGL 2*** Comparative Literature
Course Under Evaluation
Courses that are currently under evaluation will be temporarily assigned an “XXX” in place of the course number. This signifies that an academic department is reviewing your course to determine if an equivalent course is offered at LSU. Once the course is evaluated, your record will be updated accordingly. If additional information is required, such as a course syllabus, it will be requested from you directly.
Example: ENGL 200 = ENGL 2XXX
Developmental and remedial coursework will not apply to degree programs at LSU.
Only courses that are academic in nature will transfer to LSU. Vocational or technical training courses are not accepted for transfer credit.
Quarter Semester Conversion
Quarter Hour credit is divided by 1.5 or multiplied by .67 to equal semester hours.
Example: 5 QH = 3.3 SH
