You're accepted! Now what?
Step 1: Apply for Housing
Living on campus at LSU is extremely popular. If you are interested in securing a spot on campus, you should apply for housing as soon as you’re admitted.
Step 2: Register for Orientation
Orientation is the starting point of your journey at LSU. It gives you the opportunity to schedule classes, meet your future classmates, talk to representatives from your senior college, and learn about unique, exciting programs and services available to you at LSU. Additionally, International Services is required by U.S. immigration law to report that you have arrived at LSU, but cannot do that until you attend International Orientation and complete immigration-related paperwork.
Step 3: Submit Financial Documents
In order to process your Certificate of Eligibility (I-20/DS-2019), LSU’s International Services Office is required by U.S. Immigration to verify that you have sufficient funds to cover all of the estimated expenses for at least one academic year. You may have submitted your affidavit of support and proof of funding with your application, but it must be submitted after being admitted.
Step 4: Apply for a Student Visa
To enter the United States as a student, you must have a student visa issued by a U.S. Consulate or Embassy outside of the U.S., unless you are a Canadian citizen. Depending on where you plan to apply for the student visa, the visa application process can take a long time, so you should start your visa application as soon as you receive your I-20 Certificate of Eligibility (for F-1 visa) or DS-2019 Certificate of Eligibility (for J-1 visa). Visit the International Services Office website for more information.
Step 5: Submit Your Immunization Records
Louisiana law requires immunization against measles, mumps, rubella, and tetanus-diphtheria, as well as a tuberculosis screening for all first-time LSU students. You should submit your records to the LSU Student Health Center prior to attending orientation.
Step 6: Submit all Final Transcripts
If you are currently enrolled at another institution, you will need to submit your final, official transcript as soon as grades are posted, or you will not be able to complete registration. A list of transcripts needed and received can be found in “Documents Received” on myLSU. Select Student Services, then Application Status in the main menu.
Step 7: Complete Registration
Completing registration requires paying and submitting your fee bill. Fee bills are generated after you schedule your courses at orientation. You will access and pay your fee bill through your myLSU account. Select Fee Bill under Registration Services. Be sure to monitor your myLSU account for details.
