To make your orientation experience as great as possible, we asked seasoned LSU Ambassadors Megan, Jared, Liz, and Kayla for some helpful tips.
Before You Leave Home
Check your email the day before it begins for important reminders and updates from the orientation staff!
List It Out
Make a list of what you want to see and do while you’re here, whether it’s visiting the UREC or checking out a museum on campus, so you don’t miss anything while you’re here.
Download the LSU app before you get to campus and make sure you know how to use it! There’s a helpful map feature and you can even access your myLSU account from here.
Research your major and degree path. This will help you in selecting the proper classes when you schedule. You can look at the course offerings prior to arriving on campus through your myLSU account.
With the large number of students all trying to pick up their Tiger Card, it will speed up the process if you have already submitted a picture.
What To Pack
You’ll be getting tons of material during orientation, and you’ll need to bring things with you like a pen or pencil and a notepad. If you have a bag you’d like to carry all of your things in, it’s not a bad idea to take it with you.
Don’t forget! You will need to bring everything you’re given at orientation with you each day.
It’s important to remember that you’re coming to South Louisiana in the dead of summer. You’ll be much more comfortable in loose clothing and comfortable shoes. You’ll be walking around campus for longer periods of time than you’re used to so it probably isn’t in your best interest to wear those new cute strappy sandals. It’s also a good idea to bring your raincoat or an umbrella for the occasional pop-up sprinkles.
If you’re staying in a residence hall, make sure you toiletries. Linens and towels are provided, but you can certainly bring your own if you prefer. Don’t forget your phone charger!
If you stay on campus, you will not be allowed to leave after dinner. So grab some snacks before you leave home and hang out with your roomies for the night!
While You’re Here
If you have previously taken college courses or other forms of credit, and have not yet sent official records to LSU, you will need to submit all records prior to orientation in order to receive credit.
While your Tiger is keeping busy during their orientation, you’ll be learning about all of the wonderful resources LSU has to offer. It’s a great idea to take notes during those sessions to keep incase your student needs to use those resources later on.
LSU uses the wireless network “eduroam.” If you or your parents would like to access wi-fi while you’re on campus, your username is your email address (email@example.com) and your password is the same as your myLSU password.
Pro Tip: Make sure that you’re using the @lsu.edu ending to your email address and not the @tigers.lsu.edu ending.
