Get The Details:
LSU’s Nursing program is not like all nursing programs. For starters, it is not located on the same campus. The LSU Health Sciences Center School of Nursing is located in New Orleans. Another feature unique to LSU is that you will spend 1 year completing prerequisites in Baton Rouge and the remaining 3 years will be spent in nursing school.
LSU offers a pre-professional nursing program that will prepare students who plan to enter nursing school. This program includes all of the criteria that must be met in order for admission into LSU’s School of Nursing.
It is important to note that admission into Louisiana State University Agricultural and Mechanical College in Baton Rouge does NOT mean that you are admitted into LSU Health Sciences Center School of Nursing in New Orleans. There is a separate application process that you must go through once your prerequisite requirements are met.
Thirty-Four (34) credit hours of specified courses are required by the School of Nursing. The first 16 of these hours must be completed before you are eligible to apply. You must be enrolled in the remaining hours (or have completed them) at the time of application. All of these credit hours can be completed at LSU in Baton Rouge and are offered through the pre-nursing program. Students who wish to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing typically stay at LSU in Baton Rouge for one year only.
Admission into the School of Nursing is on a competitive basis and you are not guaranteed admission as an LSU student.
